Experience

My experience is a direct reflection of my most basic understanding of stewardship.  That of the responsible planning and managment of our resources, both individually and as a community.

I was born and raised in Arcadia and enjoyed the many benefits of small town life including a wonderful sense of community.  I have been happily married to my wife Jill for 11 years and we have been blessed with 2 boys, Bennett and Camron.  Carroll is a tremendous place to raise a family.  I have and currently serve as Evangelism Chair for St. Paul Lutheran Church.  I started a business, Computer Concepts of Iowa, in 2005. Computer Concepts employs 6 great technicians along with me and my wife.  I started a 2nd business, Midwest Data Management, in 2008.  I am currently Ward 1 City Councilman where I act as liaison to the Council for the Parks, Rec and Cultural Board.  I am beginning my second 3 year term on the New Hope Village Board of Directors.  I served as Community Service Chair, President Elect and President of the Carroll Rotary.  I am serving on the Steering Committee and as Professional Development Chair for the Carroll Young Professionals.  I am currently serving on the Young Professionals of Iowa State Board under the guidance of the Association of Business and Industry.  I have assisted the community of Denison with starting their own Young Professionals Group.  I am in my first year as a Citizen Advisor for the Governor Appointed, Massage Therapy Board.  I am very active in the Carroll Chamber of Commerce including assisting in several of the meetings and events that are put on each year.  I had the opportunity to represent Carroll in Washington DC this last year from both a City and Telecommunications perspective.  I have served on one of the first Parent Advisory Committees for 4 Year old Preschool at Carroll Schools.  I’ve attained a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and have taught children this truly character building sport. I also serve on the MidAmerican Council for the Boy Scouts of America.

I believe these life experiences and opportunities have taught me many lessons in patience, thoughtfulness, the importance of listening and humility.  All of these characteristics are imperative to good leadership.

My platform is based on my business background and what I have found works quite well.

  • Listen and talk to people as often as you can.
  • Provide a clean, efficient and stable environment to live and work.
  • Practice sound financial responsibility.
  • Never be complacent in the product or service you offer since needs and organizations continue to evolve and change.
