CARROLL – Adam Schweers, the Mayor of Carroll and a successful small businessman, officially launched his campaign for the Republican nomination for the Iowa Senate today and pledged to run an aggressive grassroots campaign focused on bringing more economic opportunity to western Iowa. He is running to represent Senate District 6, a seat which includes all of Audubon, Buena Vista, Carroll and Sac Counties in addition to the eight eastern townships in Crawford County.

A community leader and successful small businessman who owns and operates two growing local businesses, Computer Concepts of Iowa, which employs 9 and Midwest Data Management, which employs 2, Schweers is running to make government more efficient and effective, promote policies that encourage job and career creation, allow hardworking Iowa taxpayers to keep more of their own money and balance the budget by keeping the priorities of all Iowans in mind.

“As an entrepreneur, small business owner and Mayor, I understand what it means to meet a payroll, balance a budget and help more hardworking Iowans provide for their families and I want to do all I can to keep more of our best and brightest here in Iowa so they too can pursue their dreams and build rewarding careers,” said Schweers, 33, who served a term on the Carroll City Council prior to being elected Mayor in 2011. “I am a proud, dependable and consistent conservative who is pro-life, believes strongly in our Second Amendment rights and has a deep appreciation for the important need for school choice,” he added.

In addition to his Mayoral duties, small businesses and family responsibilities, Schweers serves on the New Hope Village Board of Directors and is active in Carroll Rotary, Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Young Professionals. He is also actively involved on the Young Professionals of Iowa State Board under the guidance of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry and has assisted the community of Denison with starting their own young professional’s organization. Schweers is a Citizen Advisor for the Governor Appointed Massage Therapy Board and is on the MidAmerican Council for the Boy Scouts of America. A Tae Kwon Do teacher who has attained a black belt, Schweers also served on one of the first Parent Advisory Committees for four year old preschool at Carroll Community Schools.

“I am a firm believer in service to others and the need for good people to step forward to make a difference and be leaders when they are called to serve,” said Schweers. “Whether it is serving your community, your church, your schools, your state or country, now more than ever we need good people to step forward and make a positive difference and I know I can be a strong and effective advocate for western Iowa in the State Senate.”

Born and raised in Arcadia, Schweers is married to his wife Jill of 11 years and they have been blessed with two sons, Bennett, age 7 and Camron, age 4. They are active members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Carroll where he currently serves as Evangelism Chair.

“I look forward to bringing my optimistic message and hardworking grassroots campaign to every voter as we all join together with the goal of bringing about a better direction for Iowa and a brighter future for our children and grandchildren,” he concluded.
